Vision

A California With Real Opportunity.
Where Nobody is Left Behind.

Scott Sakakihara is a U.S. Navy Reserve Officer, Union City Councilmember, former Vice Mayor, regional housing leader, and attorney running for State Senate to build a California that leaves nobody behind.

He has focused his public service on the issues families feel every day: affordability, housing, public safety, climate, and protecting vulnerable communities. In the State Senate, Scott will fight to lower the cost of housing, gas, and groceries, defend Californians under attack, and build a more vibrant and sustainable future for our kids.

Make California More Affordable

Scott comes from a family of farm and produce workers and engineers, and he knows the Bay Area cannot keep its promise if teachers, workers, seniors, and young families are pushed out. That’s why, on the Union City Council and as Vice Chair of the Housing Authority of Alameda County, he has fought to build more housing, protect renters, and secure funding for homelessness services. In the State Senate, he’ll fight to lower the cost of housing, healthcare, childcare, groceries, and energy.

Protect Our Most Vulnerable

All four of Scott’s grandparents were sent to Japanese American internment camps during World War II, shaping his lifelong commitment to civil rights and immigrant justice. Scott has opposed Trump’s ICE raids and fought locally for immigrant communities, working families, and at-risk youth. In the State Senate, he will defend immigrants, LGBTQ+ Californians, reproductive freedom, seniors, and the social safety net, including Medi-Cal and CalFresh.

Show the Nation that California Stands for Real Public Safety

Scott believes public safety means safer neighborhoods, stronger emergency preparedness, accountable law enforcement, and communities that can live without fear. On the City Council, he helped hire more police officers and community service workers, protected public safety funding, and supported a balanced approach rooted in community policing. In the State Senate, Scott will fight for practical public safety solutions that protect both safety and civil rights.

Fight for Universal…Everything

Scott helped expand healthcare in the Obama White House during the fight for the ACA. He knows healthcare should not depend on your job, your income, or your luck. Seeing his wife’s experience as a public school teacher deepened his belief that every child should have access to strong public schools and universal preschool.

Responsible Innovation That Works for California

Scott believes California should welcome innovation, but never at the expense of workers, consumers, children, or democracy. With experience in the Obama White House and years in Silicon Valley finance and operations, he understands both the promise of innovation and the need for public accountability. California should work with companies that want to build and create here, while setting firm rules so technology serves people.

Lead the Climate Future

Scott has already shown what climate leadership looks like in local office. He helped update Union City’s climate action plan, expand electric bus service, increase support for solar, recycling, and composting, and secure funding for transit and bike lanes. On the Ava Community Energy board, he works to deliver cleaner power and expand clean energy incentives. In the State Senate, Scott will fight for lower energy costs, cleaner air, and a climate strategy that protects working families and future generations.
